Kigali, Rwanda
In the spring of 1994, Rwanda experienced one of the most horrific episodes in all of recorded human history. Over a three month period, genocide broke out in this small land-locked nation and more than a million people were murdered. The loss totaled more than 15 percent of the entire population in an attempt to wipe out an entire people group. Neighbors turned on neighbors. Friends became enemies. And the course of a nation was changed forever.
Everyone was impacted. Families were destroyed.
A nation was left in ruin.
Over the last 15 years, Rwanda has made significant progress from the devastation that emerged from the 1994 genocide, yet it remains under-developed and hurting as a nation. There is a significant need for reconciliation, healing, and renewal.
Through the Kigali Hope Festival and the Season of Service, eternal hope was offered in abundance to many thousands in need of the Good News of Jesus Christ.
More than 70,000 people attended the two-day festival on the Amahoro National Stadium grounds in Kigali. The response was greater than anticipated, so much so that the counselors ran out of decision cards on the first night! Thanks to a rush print job, more cards were available for the final night. And with 8,000 cards filled out and individuals being followed-up by churches, only the Lord knows how many thousands of people committed their lives to Him as a result of this initiative.
